Charlie on the set of the Circus after a fire that destroyed a good portion of it.
The Circus was probably Charlie’s most difficult film to complete. There was so much turmoil going on in his life, including a divorce and the death of his mother Hannah, as well as numerous technical difficulties that caused delay after delay. I feel this is reflected in the ending to the film. I am so grateful it was finished. I think the look on his face sums in this photo sums it all up.
The Circus was the first and best bit of Chaplin I ever saw.
